Seven years was a common term of such service. It was commonly required that they be provided with clothing, a gun, and a small tract of land upon which to establish themselves after their service ended. There was no permanent stigma attached to indentured servitude, and the families of such persons merged readily with the total population. Children born to parents serving their indenture were free.

WTF?? There were 3 well-known classes of white indentured servants. 1)first class represented those who chose to bind themselves to labor for a definite time to pay for their passage to America. 2)those who came to escape poverty and a very small number were forcibly brought to the colonies. The third class, convicts, were sentenced to deportation and on arrival in America were indentured unless they had personal funds to maintain themselves.

Terms of an indenture were enforceable in the courts, and runaway servants could be compelled to return to their masters and complete their service, with additional periods added for the time they had been absent. Now Twycross... how does any of this even compare to black SLAVERY. ...and NO... White (on white) Indentured servitude was NOT "slavery" by any stretch of the imagination. What you are discribing as indentured servitude is the ideal version of it. In reality even though the term was 7 years, say the worker broke a plow, oh well they have to work that off for another year, So another year is added on. People abused this often which meant in most cases indentured servitude was slavery.
Slavery is slavery, i'm not going to put blacks on a pedastool just because difference races were involved.

Either disagree with my detailed and factual synopsis on what white indentured servitude was (and look foolish and uneducated) or explain to me how you can even make a correlation between the forced lifetime enslavement and the proper restitution required by white debtors, people who wanted to immigrate and prisoners allowed to work off their debts. Twycross, ...And YOU are the only uninformed person (and white supremists of course) who would even call indentured servitude "slavery" when their is NO valid comparison to the forced enslavement of Africans whatsoever. Is it your white guilt that causes you to make such ridiculous pronouncements? If indentured servitude was indeed "slavery" (LOL) then convicted prisoners working a chain gang (for a set time) to pay off their debt to society should now be called "slaves" right? ...How pathetic.
