Atheism is a Religion?

Back

O RLY? Then riddle me this: Should I be allowed to start a "Church of Atheism" and receive the same tax exemptions that YOUR church does? If not, why? BONUS POINTS: Why should a church be tax-exempt in the first place?

atheism shouldn't be a religion because they dont worship anything. A catholic, or christian go to church to worship The churchees and religion have cause so many conflicts they are dispicable acts and think about the roman gods, the greek gods, other gods these are just beliefs like this god people believe in now, they arent true nice comment

I think churches get tax breaks because they are non-profit organizations. I would image that there are many philosophically atheist organizations that get this same tax break. There are even, in a manner of speaking, atheist "churches". Although I guess society or group would be more appropriate.

gamerolled... I think you're giving them too much credit. Most literally believe that atheism is a religion. I can't tell you how many times I've heard them say something like "It takes as much or more faith [sic] to believe that there is NOT a god than that a god exists"

Why should churches be tax-exempt? I don't really see why? Is Atheism a religion? Technically it is not, but it is a system of beliefs. Beliefs in an absence of a higher power. So whoever called atheism a religion may have simply used the wrong term. It is a belief, not a religion.

great point! i'm an atheist too and think that churches and religion are one of the biggest and oldest scams on the planet, and if atheism IS a religion as these people claim, then we ought to get tax exempt status too! just think how much money could be raised if religions no longer had tax exempt status! ought to be enough to pay off, or take a big chunk out of the deficit!

My church should get tax exempt.....why? so we can get extra money to pay a psychologist to help people, like you.

But then your church should be taxed in the forst place. There is a lot more psychiatrists necessary to treat the christians.
