Bill Maher on Marijuana Legalization, NORML 2002

Back

Speaking in San Francisco to the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws annual conference in 2002, comedian and talk show host (now-"Real Time" on HBO; then - "Politically Incorrect"), Bill Maher rips into America's War on Cannabis, taking it personal because his friend Todd McCormick was in a CA prison at the time - serving 4 years for researching a book to help medical marijuana patients grow their own medicine, as a collaborative effort with motivational author Peter McWilliams. http://norml.org

contrary to what most non pot smokers might think.many pot smokers r hard working men and women.they have dreams and goals in life.i dont think its rite for them to have to spend a bunch of money to buy some weed or be harrassed and or put in jail for smoking a little pot.makes me sick to think of all the money ive spent in my 15 years of smoking it.

I've been wondering for quite some time why we never see NORML or pro-marijuana commercials on tv or anywhere besides the internet.

wow... he just compaired having cistic fibrosis and not being able to legally smoke weed.
ErikWithBrain (Wednesday 19th of November 2008 01:09:57 PM)
Not exactly, he compared the similarity of the "threat" both cystic fibrosis and marijuana smoking have on people who are not involved in either. The analogy is a bit strange but makes sense.

Save 400,000 lives each year. Demand a Government mandate that tobacco companies substitute cannabis for tobacco in all cigarette products. It would be such a gas to listen to folks trying to defend the status quo. They say: it sends a wrong message to kids, We say: 400,000 lives. They say pot makes you lazy, We say: 400,000 lives. Whatever argument they use, nothing trumps 400,000 lives each year.

Ok well although I agree with your "plan" and agree it would be better to smoke pot then tobacco. Don't use the "truth" commercials scare and false info to back up. The fact is the "truth" and "anti-smoking" groups use junk science, misleading and wrong statistics to further their own agenda, not unlike the tobacco companies themselves did. If they get what they want then next will be alcohol. You can count on it

I was surprised to see your comment, and I am wondering why you think these are incorrect stats? The World Health Organization states that of everyone alive today, 500,000,000 will will be killed by tobacco. The WHO is hardly a radical group and according to them Cigarettes kill half of all lifetime users. (It killed my father -- and he quit 18 years before he died of lung disease.) But I don't mean to argue with you. I appreciate your comment and I am just wondering why you said what you did.

the thing is we can never get into the black because all the paper we use costs us more than the face value of the bill plus interest "the interest rate" that the fed, a non elected, corporation run for profit occaisionaly acts like they are doing us some huge favor by cutting a half or quarter percent, the day we have their heads on poles is the day we will all be free and get back into a productive economy
