Before you say that about the MiG 25 Foxbat, read Victor Bilenko's book "MiG Pilot". Mr. Bilenko was the Soviet Pilot that flew the Foxbat into Japan. The Mach 3.2 speed was clocked over Isreal in 1973 but it was a burst of speed and the engines had to be replaced in Egypt. Also the Foxbat was specifically designed as an interceptor primarily to shoot dwon the SR-71/A-12. Its attack roll came later. btw, The SR-71 speed is well over Mach 4.0 its real speed is still classified.

You fool it is an English car made for England where everybody drives on the left side of the road and sits on the right of the car.

i think lotus builds their own v8 motors and uses toyota 4 cylinders. i do suspect though that toyota and lotus and maybe even isuzu have some relations together. lotus did the suspension on an isuzu car before and i think they did something on toyota model once but im not sure about that.

according to this video, lotus made their own 4 cyl engine for europe.

The SR-71 holds the world speed record for a jet powered craft at a top declassified speed of mach 3.2+. Look at the F-22's air in lets and compare them to the SR-71's. Those cones on the SR-71 slow the air that comes into the engines when the craft travels at high speed. they solve a problem called compressibility. Notice that the F-22 lacks them? The 22's inlets alone limit it to speeds below mach 3. Don't get me started on the thermal barrier that also limits top speed performance.

i realize the sr-71 is the fastest jet. but the f-22s performance is still classified isnt it? im dont claim to be an expert im just going by what i saw on a television special about the f-22. they didnt know the top speed either but they did speculate that it could be our fastest jet yet. i think the f-22s strong point would be its agility and long range capability. if im not mistaken it can hit a moving jet at a very impressive distance , something on the order of like 12 miles.

From Wikipedia: chief test pilot Paul Metz stated that the Raptor has a fixed inlet; but while the absence of variable intake ramps may theoretically make speeds greater than Mach 2.0 unreachable, there is no evidence to prove this. Such ramps would be used to prevent engine surge resulting in a compressor stall, but the intake itself may be designed to prevent this. Metz has also stated that the F-22 has a top speed greater than 1,600 mph (Mach 2.42).

wow mach 2.42 is an impressive speed. would that make it the fastest fighter jet? or has there been faster?
piwright42 (Sunday 9th of November 2008 07:15:59 PM)
Although not a fighter in the truest sense, it would do badly in a turning fight, that honor goes to the MiG-25P ('Foxbat-A') (interceptor) with a brief top speed sprint of mach 3.2. This top speed should not be confused with the SR-71's sustained top speed of 3.2+. Designed in the 60's the Foxbat was originally intended to intercept the American Valkyrie bomber and A-12 "Oxcart," (the first incarnation of the SR-71). Operationally the Foxbat was used for reconnaissance and bombing.

Then let the Brits fly Lynxes. :P Wait an Apache can easily out slug a Lynx and acquire targets faster.
