He places a magnet onto the superconductor to demonstrate that it is not magnetic and doesn't display the Meinser effect at room temperature, hence the cooling using LN2 annoys the superconductor to do its thing

when you super cool a super conductor it becomes like a mirror to magnetic waves so it repels the magnet perfectly with out flipping it

A few seconds into the video, he places something on top of the shiny disc. He then removes it before pouring the LN2 on the magnet.
What was it he placed on top of the shiny disc?
