I just looked it up. Porridge is what we call oatmeal. Apparently Porridge can be made with several ingredients like rice? Oatmeal is just rolled oats that are cooked in water to a thick mushy texture. We put in it what you would put in Porridge.

so it is identical to porriage but with a different name? Porridge is rolled oats and water/milk and maybe salt, usually you have it with milk or cream and some people add fruit! you Americans are just awkward lol I got confused over nothing! haha thanks for explaining
