It still seem so surreal to me that climate change is happening and that we can very well be destroying the world as we know it. I'd like to thank Al Gore for getting this issue out there. I'd also like to thank John McCain for taking on the crisis too as part of his platform when he was running for president, that meant a lot to me. Thanks Barrack Obama for wanting to do more about the crisis, let's hope you can be bold enough to really do something to stop the direction we are going.

Please see my comment below inviting viewers to visit the climate sites to decide whether the Earth is warming or cooling. Short term warming seems obvious (although with regional warm/cool variations), but the more important data are the multi-decadal trends, driven primarily by CO2, where the warming is apparent, but also the typical peaks and valleys that punctuate it. It seems to me that with these sites available for viewers to draw their own conclusions, arguing here is not very useful.

the earth is cooling. ALL data sets show a cooling trend in the earth since 2001. The only data set that doesnt show cooling is James Hansen's GISS set. But James Hansen is the godfather of manmade global warming. And he is a radical environmentalist. Also his data sets have been corrected more than once by independent, outside sources. The GISS temperature data set cannot be trusted. This is bringing shame to NASA.

I'm not sure it serves a purpose to argue here whether the Earth is warming or cooling, when viewers can visit all the climate sites themselves - HadCRUT3, NCDC, GISS, UAH, RSS. I judge them to show recent warming (June through October - the last data point) as well as a long term CO2-driven warming trend punctuated by typical short term ups and downs, all consistent with the basic CO2 forcing as the long term factor. However, anyone visiting these sites should draw his or her own conclusions.

well put. Especially like the "son of a bitch" part.

I agree with you. Even if we stopped now we would still be greatly effected, but if we do stop, we might have a chance.

Co2 takes decades before it leaves the atmosphere. If global warming stopped then the Arctic ice wouldnt be melting. A reason why the earth is cooling is because the North Atlantic current is slowing down because the fresh water (which has a higher density) is mixing with the salt water which disrupts this current cycle of warm water to hot. If this cycle were to stop the temperature would be drastically altered.

Adding to the known dangers of continued anthropogenic warming - floods, hurricane intensification, droughts, starvation, and disease, a new danger has emerged - crabgrass. A recent study showed that increased temperatures stimulate crabgrass growth far more than growth of lawn grasses. I expect this may be the final straw needed to convince doubters here of the need for immediate action before it's too late. (A crabgrass link is livescience. com/environment/081203-nhm-crabgrass-lawns. html).

Correct! The ice age is next.
