Do it to make recreational substance use less harmful. For it is the law makes drugs dangerous.

Maybe we fear legalization and decriminalization because the laws are inhumane.

Yeah, you are not open minded.
gangiangie(Saturday 25th of October 2008 02:36:17 PM)
I disagree, I think I am open-minded....I've taken every drug out there and did all the clubbing and drinking and raving just like most people and I understand the need for recreation.
BUT, drugs need to be illegal because they really are dangerous, I'm not just saying it, do your research and you will find out for yourself.
Keeping drugs illegal minimizes addiction, which is the main problem here. Addiction to anything ruins lives but, addiction to dangerous substances takes lives xxx

Drugs never killed anyone, drugs when used under the right dosage will never ever kill you.
It's just when you make them illegal that dosages vary, that's when people OD and die.
gangiangie(Saturday 25th of October 2008 02:55:11 PM)
Maybe, but that would only work if they were on prescription from your GP....otherwise people will never limit themselves to the correct dosage because they become immune to it and need greater quantities and they are left with cravings for more.
On top of that, what kind of drugs are we talking about? The majority of hard drugs are useless for giving a 'high' unless they are given at a high dosage.....in fact, most recreational drugs are completely poisonous to the system, much like alcohol...
Naminator99(Saturday 25th of October 2008 02:59:40 PM)
Of course they wouldn't limit themselves..
That's the whole point of tolerance.
For pure cocaine you wouldn't need more than 100mg to get high.
gangiangie(Saturday 25th of October 2008 03:22:00 PM)
But what is 'getting high'? When you get sensations of pleasure from drugs these are the drugs messing with the neurotransmitters in the brain and not only do they give a massive come-down (varying between different people) but this can lead to mental health problems later in life (sometimes immediate results).
Additionally, when certain drugs make people hallucinate or 'out of it' its coz the brain has been poisoned and the ability to discern reality from imagination has been lost.......
Naminator99(Saturday 25th of October 2008 03:49:20 PM)
So?
The same thing goes for alcohol, prohibition failed in the past and they try to implement the exact same measures with drugs.
If you are going to ban a substance because its dangerous, then keep all substance illegal; both alcohol and nicotine are far more dangerous than marijuana, LSD and ketamine for example.
I can understand the reasoning, just not the hipocrisy.
gangiangie(Saturday 25th of October 2008 04:06:06 PM)
I agree there is hypocrisy but, that doesn't change the fact that some drugs simply are dangerous, some more than others....
I think that we could maybe get around this if certain drugs were made available on prescription, that way the dosages could be monitored (but I can't see that happening in a million years) and that would take the 'fun' out of it surely??
I am coming more from a perspective concerning long-term use and addiction which would be greatly increased if legalised IMHO xxx
Naminator99(Monday 10th of November 2008 05:56:35 PM)
It wouldn't take the fun out of using ze durgs.
See, unless you know about tolerance buildup then you would know that prescriptions would have to go up every month if and only if the person is taking it every day.
That is part of the problem: people assume (those in favor of prohibition) that it will be all out anarchy and no one will be or be held responsible for their actions after the fact. Does a wife not leave her husband if he cheats saying he was drunk and didn't mean to? She leaves typically, as inebriation isn't an excuse and all responsible (the irresponsible drunken lecher) should be held so. Accountability is important in everything.
