This is undoubtably a test for the car's traction control system which is the only way you can drive/win in F1 today. The old days of hanging the back end out in the corners, or spinning tires while accelerating are gone with the perfection of computer controlled chassis/drive systems. The goal of this design/thought is to NEVER spin the tires.

you dont really watch the formula one do you? remember that traction control was banned last year. The traction control would stop the car completely on ice so he can do donuts because he has no traction control. Traction control stops engine power by cutting the spark to one or more pistons so on ice it would have to stop all pistons but one causing the car to stall.
