My Girl - In The Pines - Where Did You Sleep Last Night

Back

Most sources I can find say that Leadbelly was born in 1888. His gravestone says 1889 :-/ There seems to be some confusion. My Girl - 1944 - By Lead Belly - Lead Belly was inducted into 5 music Halls of Fame. Unknown song writer for this song - it is from the 1870's I heard this version of this song about 6 months ago and it blew my mind... I always assumed it was written by Kurt Cobain.

Isn't that called 'rhythm'? and also the somg is 140 years old :-D The loop has been around for hundreds and hundreds of years... all the GOOD classical music has it. Maybe I misunderstand you :)

He said that he thinks that this song is terrific, he listens to it all days. That's what it means ;)

i heard this song about 5 years ago. blew my mind. This song has rather powerful lyrics if you listen closely. I dig on Cobains version, but his was inspired by this, which is far superior, imo.

I find it sad that the poster thought this was written by Cobain . . . Thankfully he/she figured it out . . . Cobain's is decent but insignificant in comparison.

imagine how much awesome music th blacks made during segregation or sang as slaves and sharecroppers we might never get! The Lomaxs tried to gather as much black, country and bluegrass as they could.

There are a couple other folk collectors which gathered some material too. John Quincy Wolf and Max Hunter. Both of these guys have an online archive of songs, search it up if you care to. Many are poor quality but there are some oldies and real treasures in there. My favorites are by a folk singer named James Morris better known as Jimmy Driftwood or Jimmie Driftwood. I didn't find any Leadbelly though just some of the songs he sang also.
