Magic will never be that big. It is a niche activity. It is better that it isn't huge. Sure, more money would be nice, but once something goes mainstream it looses it's charm. Magic is kind of like soccer... Both are fun to play for almost everyone, but you have to be pretty hardcore to be a consistent spectator. They should just webcast and link the video from the sites. I think the average player today spends more money for online cards. TV as we know it will be dead soon anyway.
Great interview; Patrick's charisma really shines through in the recent vids.
WotC does baffle the mind... I can only surmise that they're marketing group is too introspective and that they need to hire unbiased people on the game to change it. Maybe they do and they're just plain incompetent. Maybe a marketing team of 2 marketing majors who've never heard of it, 2 majors who play casually and 2-4 pros/media types?
