In this episode of The Urban Homesteaders, Ben builds a compost turner using 100% salvaged materials. Sorry again for the sound... we still are without real video equipment, so we're using a macbook as our only video recorder.
Stay tuned! We're building another compost bin this week, and in the next month or so, we'll be comparing the quality of compost from both!

Im gonna use a broom handle for the stick and a plastic trashcan with a lid for the barrel. It should work the same, right?

Actually it's a very amazingly simple and workable idea. Not bad at all but I go though about 10 of those barrels of compost per spring. lol. I make mine with the wire fencing. Great video though. loved it. :)
COMPOSTING IS A PAIN IN THE A$*
IT'S simple really just go to ORCHARD SUPPLY
and get your self a bag of DOW CHEMICALS FERTILIZER and watch your crops grow WITHOUT
THE PAIN THAT COMPOSTING REPRESENTS.. :O):O):O)

This is frigging wonderful! i have been searching for a cheap method to make one of these and you did it! Thanks!
Fantastic method here. Now if I could only find a similar barrel. Where do you find a food-safe wine-making barrel or a rain barrel that isn't super expensive?
Also, just FYI for anybody who's using pressure treated wood: don't put any anywhere near your actual food garden. It is heavy with arsenic and leaches into your soil. Sadly, I've seen many people thinking they were being extra-thoughtful by using pressure treated wood to make their raised beds.
Thank you for this info. I am going to convert an old pool filter into my composter following your instructions. This gave me the info that I needed to take the step from trash to treasure.
