these bands aren't really the same stlye their a bit heavyer and darker, but try In Flames, or bullet for my valentine.

I'm not sure what state precisely, but apparently the singer, Ryan McCombs lives in Indiana. As for style of music, it'd be classified as hard rock or 'alternative' metal.
