the red pill disrupts his mind's connection to the matrix so that they can pull him out of it. The BLUE pill however is basically some sort of memory eraser mixed with a strong relaxant drug. So it knocks you out, they take him back to his apartment, he wakes the next morning, is totally calm and remembers nothing. Personally I'd've taken the blue one.

most movies do follow the jesus story, but then again, the jesus story follows the story of most divine beings throughout history. Death, then rebirth. i would recommend looking up "the hero journey"
